Grateful for the Things I Know
Today I went to a funeral. It wasn't for a man I knew well, but for my uncle's (my mom's sister's husband) father. I haven't been to many funerals in my life, but this one was a different experience. Ya know, I'm not big on funerals, they're hard for me. Often times they just make me not want to grow up so I'll never have to deal with losing a parent, a spouse, etc. This funeral though, was a different experience for me. Like I said, I didn't really know Ray, but I did get to see my cousins that I haven't seen in YEARS! (like really, I hadn't seen my cousin Adam since my grandma's funeral... I was 11) This was also the first funeral I remember going to that was not an LDS service. The past couple of days have made me truly understand and appreciate the things that I have been taught for my entire life. I am so grateful for the plan of salvation and knowing that our families can be together forever. I love that for members of the LDS church, funerals are sad, but we know it's not the end. That was a good thing with this one, they believe that there is life after death and that they will be together again, but not in a spirit paradise or anything. I learned a lot today! It was a really great experience that's for sure! I love the Gospel and am so glad to have it in my life.
